The G90/G99 M5 Eventuri intake system was developed to provide an optimised airflow path to the turbos while minimising heat soak to maximise performance. We designed a sealed system to prevent the intake from drawing in heated air but balanced this requirement with the advantages of a dual air feed to reduce the overall pressure drop. The ducts take air from the OEM feeds and also feature secondary openings strategically positioned near the bonnet shuts. These openings tap into a consistently cold region of the engine bay, providing an additional source of cool air. In addition, these secondary openings also enhance the audibility of the turbos spooling within the cabin, adding an immersive dimension to your driving experience.

At the heart of the Eventuri G9x M5 intake lies our patented Venturi filter housings. This signature design ensures laminar airflow as the air transitions towards the turbo inlets. By reducing turbulence and optimising the flow path, the turbos operate with lower wastegate duty cycles. The combined effect of the patented housings and the dual air feed ducts results in improved performance and sharper throttle response, translating to quicker acceleration and a more engaging connection with the road.

The Eventuri Difference

The G9X M5 Eventuri system uses our Patented Carbon Fibre Housings with our Gen 2 bespoke filters, which provide an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbos. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design which invokes the Venturi affect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce the drag on the turbo.

  • EVE-G9X-CFM-INT : BMW G9X M5 Carbon intake Matte Finish

The Eventuri G9X M5 intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:

Each intake system consists of:

  • 2 x Carbon Fiber Venturi Housings with Integrated Tubes
  • 2 x Carbon Fiber Dual Air Feed Ducts
  • 2 x Bespoke High Flow Generation 2 Filters
  • 2 x Aluminium Inlet Cowls
  • CNC Machined Hardware and Stainless Steel Brackets
  • High Quality Silicon Couplers and OEM Spec Hose Clamps

INTAKE HOUSING ASSEMBLY

The filter housings comprise of our bespoke generation 2 filters, aluminium inlet cowls, the carbon pods and integrated tubes. The carbon pods shroud the reverse mounted filters and smoothly shape the airflow down to the turbo inlet tubes. This is a key feature of the intake design where we have removed the requirement for a convoluted rubber hose between the airbox and the turbo inlet tubes. The filter housings and integrated tubes extend all the way to the stock turbo tubes and are able to move as one piece with the engine through the strut braces. This removes the extra interfaces of having a separate flexible tube, which the stock system requires for flexibility as the stock airboxes are mounted to the chassis so cannot move. The result is a smoother path from the filter to the turbo inlets and therefore the turbos are able to function with less resistance.

INTERNAL VOLUME

Another key design feature of the intake housings is the internal volumes of the tubing as they pass through the strut braces. On the G90 M5, the airbox system must pass through an oval opening in the strut brace on each side before reaching the turbo inlets. We have managed to increase the internal size of our intakes at this junction which results in more available volume for the turbos to draw from and therefore less restriction. The increase in cross sectional areas between the Eventuri and the stock airbox is 31% as follows:

  • Internal Cross Sectional Area of intake tube at the strut brace:
  • Stock Airbox Tube = 6487mm²
  • Eventuri Intake Tube = 8497mm²

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY

Our patented filter housings have a smooth reduction in cross sectional area as they shroud the filters and taper down to the tubing. This geometry invokes the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack – below is a diagram to show the comparison between our patented design and a regular intake system. Our bespoke filters aid the airflow moving through the housings and allow for an even velocity profile as the airflow exits the housings. Further details can be read in the Technology and Filters pages.

CARBON DUAL FEED DUCTS

To direct cold air to the housings, we designed our ducts with dual feeds. The first one connects to the OEM cold air feed which takes air from an ambient area around the bumper/headlamp area. However, the position of these feeds in relation to the filter housings would have created a large pressure drop in the system as the airflow would have to navigate through a restricted geometry. To solve this we added a secondary feed at the top of each duct to sit on the side panels close to the bonnet shuts. This opens up the ducts to a second source of cold air while also alleviating the issue of the restricted geometry. The dual feeds minimise the pressure drop in the system while also enhancing the sound of the turbo to the cabin. Made from the same high quality prepreg carbon fiber as the housings, the ducts finish off the intake system beautifully.
